Manual-ON/Auto-OFF: What It Means for Occ Sensors

We get questions often about what Manual-ON/Auto-OFF actually means. Mixups will sometimes happen because customers expect that all Occupancy Sensors turn lights on and off automatically.
In the past, Occ Sensors were made only to do things this way by being completely automatic. Now, of course, newer technology permits a lot of additions that can accomodate a variety of lifestyles, not just a particular few. Leviton offers what are called "Manual-ON/Auto-OFF" sensors.
These sensors, instead of turning the lights on automatically everytime an occupant enters a room, have to be pushed on manually as you would any normal switch. Then, as long as your motion continues (even minor motion), lights will remain on for regular use. They won't be turned off until the area becomes vacant again. Just as with other sensors, they recognize heat within their field of view, and are able to "determine" whether or not the lights should remain in use.
These are a great solution for areas like offices, classrooms, kitchens, and all rooms in a home, especially bedrooms and bathrooms.
