Smart Measures in Efficiency Mean Big SavingsAuthor: Chris B Posted Date: 5/20/2010 5:28:52 PM
Leviton Manufacturing recently collaborated with the Long Island Power Authority's (LIPA) Commercial Efficiency Program to put together a number of "long-term sustainability initiatives." This was part of a continual effort to produce eco-friendly products and display a "commitment," says Leviton President and CEO Donald J. Hendler, "to serving our customers, while serving as a socially-responsible corporate citizen."
This all happened, interestingly enough, during the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Earth Day. For their enormous efforts, Leviton executives were presented by LIPA with a $48,955 rebate check. And for good reason? Leviton's decision to use a notable amount of energy efficient systems is estimated to start saving around 141 kilowatts (kW) in energy demands and 646,433 kilowatt hours (kWh) in electric energy usage every year. The money savings are significant too, with amounts of around $116,000 annually. An added result is the reduction of damaging emissions.
A year after Leviton's relocation from New York to Long Island, I?m glad to be able to mention the positives that came out of it. The move brought in a good 450 jobs to the state and brought about a LIPA energy rate discount of around $400,000 heading into the next five years.
