What "Self Grounding" Really Means

With some confusion over the meaning of "self grounding" receptacles, I just wanted to clarify it a little. Some customers might think this means they don't need any ground wire connected to the receptacle, but actually, that's not correct.
Self Grounding just means that if the receptacle is installed in a metal box that is grounded through the conduit, then the strap will provide a ground to the device. We would still recommend that you always use a regular ground wire too.
